Sniffer Standardization

The object of these services is to help a customer who has purchased Sniffer and Distributed Sniffer products over the years and now has many different software and hardware platform levels. Our goal is to provide the customer with a much more manageable, effective tools environment, which will provide a better return on the large investment they have in Sniffer products.

Evaluate Current Sniffer Environment

  1. Determine current existing versions of Agent and Console Sniffer software.
  2. Determine current Distributed Sniffer Operating system platform.
    • (Builds and Service Packs)
  3. Determine existing hardware platforms and memory.
  4. Determine and document system settings
  5. Determine usability issues with installed Sniffer products.

Determine required availability upgrade path:

  1. Existing Equipment
    • Software (Sniffer and Operating System)
    • Hardware
  2. Replacement Equipment
    • Software
    • Hardware
  3. Plan and Schedule project timeline
    • Transition plan
    • Installation schedule

Perform Updates and Upgrades

  1. Create Distributed Sniffer Images (Includes OS upgrades and patches)
  2. Install required Distributed Sniffer memory upgrades
  3. Check and Update System BIOS
  4. Re-Image Sniffer Systems
  5. Reconfigure Sniffer Interfaces
  6. Test functionality of updated Sniffer systems
  7. Upgrade Console Software on core Sniffer user systems

Standardize NT environment

  1. WINS Domain names
  2. Workstation names
  3. TCP/IP parameters (gateway, DNS entries, etc.)
  4. Administrator Passwords
  5. User Accounts

• * Any non-functioning equipment will be repaired if under current Network Associates service contracts. CNI will arrange the RMA process. Any Non-covered additional equipment will be the customers’ financial responsibility. Any local Labor associated with non-functioning equipment will be performed by CNI as part of the quarterly update contract.
